"An Important Thing..."

"The important thing,
is not to stop questioning.
Curiosity,
has its own reason for existence.
One cannot help but be in awe,
when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity,
of life,
of the marvelous structures of reality.
It is enough if one tries to merely comprehend,
a little mystery every day...".

You give your all.
But feel as if it costs you nothing...".

"Reflections Upon Outward Bound..."

To ponder is one thing. to muse another.
Reflection is wonderful, and dreaming is a gift.
We have such abilities to envision all that we so want to wander among and through. Our minds create the possibilities, and then it is time to climb further.
"Put some boots on your dreams", our Outward Bound Instructor said.
Then we were to learn of the wild places beyond contemplation; of the terrain of taking actions. These were steps on trails of another kind, towards horizons of dreams now made very real.
'Boots on our dreams' - a so potent shared metaphor, said so long ago to us, long pondered over many more seasons, and now passed forward once more to all of you Dear Friends..... DSD

"Leave No Stone Unturned..."

"To find what you seek in the road of life, the best proverb of all is that which says: 'Leave no stone unturned'...". E.Lytton

We turn over so many cobblestones on our journey.
Under some we find what hides in the dark, damp places, and that which maybe should be left alone.
Under most others though, we discover treasure we learn to embrace and define within our adventure ways.
Yet all likely need to be turned, experienced, pondered, and mused about.
Where will your next stone be found Dear Finders...

"Keepers, Holders, And Bearers..."

Ancient legends tell of these stories, and the Elders of many lands speak to their truth.
At way points within all our histories, some of us - maybe even in past lives so the stories say, became the holders, the Keepers of the Stones.
These were, and still are, positions of responsibility and respect. Sacred stones were often those needed for flint and fire. Many other such stones held images upon them of great value to the persons and their group, for the stories they held within. Still other stones were themselves of singular importance for memory & meaning, considering who and where and when they were discovered. Thus they became so very cherished by their holders.
We each are Keepers of such memorable stones in our adventuring lives.
As we each wander, we also become what is now reflected in and represented by, the more current meaning of these legends - as the bearers of the stories themselves that all such 'stone' experiences represents...
We are all Keepers, Holders, and Bearers, my Friends... DSD

"The Power Of Stories..."

"That is the power of a good story.
It can encourage you.
It can make you laugh.
It can bring you joy.
It will make you think.
It will tap into hidden emotions.
It can make you cry.
The power of a story can also bring about healing,
give you peace,
and change your life...".

"Being Grateful..."

"I have had the world lie beneath my clumsy boots and have seen the red sun slip over the horizon after the dark Antarctic winter. I have been given more than my share of excitement, beauty, laughter and friendship...".            Sir Edmund Hillary

"Such Meaningful Adventure Stories We Share..."

"When we want mood experiences,
we may go to concerts,

When we also want meaningful emotional experiences,
we go to the Storyteller...".

"The Truth Of It..."

"For every place that we've visited there are dozens more where we would like to go. Every map or chart depicting our meandering coastline draws us in, leading us to ask what's down this stretch of coast, what can be found paddling into this estuary, up this inlet. And then there are the places that we have visited, the places we swore we would return to: bays with untouched beaches, abandoned villages with their ceremonial poles, the jagged cut of untouched rocky coastlines. All told, a true paddler's paradise, inviting us back and compelling us onward...".

"All Along The Way..."

There are those of us who listen more and others who want to share much too.
Most tend to enjoy both of the give and take of conversation and also the quieter connections when out there.
He was one of our elder adventurers; one of the venerable ones who through time and deed and leadership, others would follow and listen closely too, often just for the many lively stories.
It was not so much an account of his own life, as it was about the shared tales of amazing experiences in the wilds. Grand narrations of high places and fast waters, with anecdotes of legend, which many of the young ones listened closely & intently to and were then embraced by these.
Each new day would bring forth a new fable, and each turn of the trail a different tale. When the weather changed or the sun set, the tone and content of his stories would evolve also, into something when more than words were being spoken. The fire would be lit and the images would then begin to dance before our very eyes.
To blend such fun activities of adventure, with the sharing of so meaningful tellings, was unique and powerful. The subtle thing of this experience for many of us, was that a significant part of our own adventure journey had now become the stories being told along the trail.
These many years later I can still sense how, while the adventure experiences were great and memorable, what I now remember most are the shared stories he gave us - they have become unforgettable.
He is no longer adventuring, yet I am sure his spirit wanders still.
Now during those times out when we are telling our own tales, we ensure to share his many wonderful stories too. All along the way...  DSD

"Dedicated For Your Dreams And Efforts..."

So many wonderous shadows, even more subtle stories,
Tales of bold adventures, such efforts, and dreams.
Shadows of long journeys, high upon bare rock faces,
Dark images of knife ridges, exposed cliffs and high clouds,
Then there are those other shadows, of the whole mountain itself.
Now comes a simple calm slowing, therein an even quieter recognition,
Of the questing shadows of us wanderers, now a part of such elusive mountains.
So many wonderous shadows, now even more shared stories,
Such tales of bold memories, from our efforts, and dreams..... DSD

Dedicated as we all embrace the long shadows reflecting your efforts and commitments my Friends...

"Of Tales, Stories, And Secrets..."

Oh, the tales we tell when we return from way up there.
The fireside reports presented of places so very wild and high.
The challenging accounts given of wonderously elusive adventures.
All those forever moments about which we so wish to share.

There are many endless meanings to be gleaned.
Such immense laughter and fun to be experienced.
Even more to say and then reflect about.
Within the stories of our adventurous journeys.

Then, when resting in the quieter lingering moments .
As we gaze longingly back towards our distant summits and shorelines.
That is when we begin to listen ever more deeply.
Hopefully then to gratefully hear, and remember as well.
For how the mountains, islands, forests, and canyons.
Also begin telling us their own secret stories too..... DSD

"Of The Same Family..."

"Why do we believe we are greater than...
Greater than the Bear whose strength is unmatched, the Wolf who understands more than we know.
Greater than the Eagle which views all from above, the Rabbit that quietly watches us pass by.
Why do we believe we are greater than, when we more truly are of the same family.
They are our Brothers, our Sisters, our Elders...".
GrandFather, Mountain Elder

"The Smiles..."

"A new paradigm involves a principle that was present all along, but unknown to us.
It includes the old as partial truth, one aspect of 'How Things Work', while allowing for things to work in other ways as well.
By its larger perspective, it transforms.
These transformations are often behind our greatest smiles...".  M. Ferguson

"Muir's View On The Wild Ones..."

"Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much the larger and better in every way...". John Muir

Just pondering some quotes and gifted images from other adventurers, while I am 'Mixing In' some fine strands and bits of the wild ones fur discovered out wandering these many last years.
They are often the last elements mixed in with my paints upon these little Summit Stones. I always hope they add to the character of each and feel they tell a story all of their own too.
Muir's musing really says it all doesn't it my Friends..... DSD
